Ogando explained that the link with Mariotti began in the 1980s, when he became directly involved in the local sports movement, participating in visits to communities and accompanying children, coaches and leaders in training processes. In those first meetings, he recalled, Víctor Pichardo, now a State official, was also present. The sports leader pointed out that, at different times of difficulty, Mariotti served as a strategic ally for the province, facilitating management and economic support for projects related to sports and community development. “When a need arose, he was always willing to help immediately,” Ogando said. He also indicated that a significant part of the sports infrastructure and connectivity works that Monte Plata has today are linked to the impetus given in those years. He highlighted that the transformation process was strengthened from 2006, with the celebration of the National Games, a stage that he described as decisive for the increase of investments and improvements in the province, during the period in which Mariotti served as governor. “Many of the sports facilities, streets, roads and bridges that exist today in Monte Plata would not have been possible without that support,” Ogando affirmed, calling to appreciate with gratitude the contribution of those who have contributed to the progress of the community. Finally, the president of the Bayaguana Sports Union defined this recognition as an exercise in historical memory and justice, and invited those present to applaud the work carried out by Charlie Mariotti in favor of the growth and development of the province over the years.
