SPORTS WRITING.– The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed this Tuesday the sanction imposed on Dominican tennis player Maikel Villalona, 21 years old, consisting of four years and six months suspension for multiple violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

Villalona, who is not in the world ranking, was accused on October 15th of incurring five infractions of the anti-corruption code, including the manipulation of the result of a match, the receipt of money and the failure to report a corrupt approach. The events are related to a doubles match of the ITF World Tennis Tour played in 2022, according to the ITIA in an official statement. The organization also held the Dominican player responsible for not cooperating with the investigation, by ignoring five different requests to be interviewed in early 2025. Faced with the lack of response to the charges presented by the ITIA, Villalona admitted his responsibility in all the accusations and accepted the sanction, which also includes a fine of 10,000 dollars. The tennis player decided not to appeal the punishment, which came into effect on October 30, and prohibits him from playing, training, or attending any tennis event organized by entities affiliated with the ITIA. The International Tennis Integrity Agency is an independent body that brings together the main players in world tennis, including the “ATP”, the “WTA”, the “International Tennis Federation” and representatives of the “Grand Slam tournaments”.
