Santiago.- Air Europa and Cibao Airport celebrated the first anniversary of their direct route between Santiago de los Caballeros and Madrid, a strategic connection that has strengthened ties between Europe and the Cibao, boosting tourism, trade, and international connectivity.
Félix García, president of the Board of Directors of the Cibao International Airport, highlighted the importance of this route for the northern region of the country: “This direct connection with Europe has been a transcendental step for the economic development of Santiago and the entire Cibao region. We thank Air Europa for trusting our airport and the potential of our people.”
For his part, Juan Jose (Pepe) Hidalgo, founder of Air Europa, as well as his daughter, María José Hidalgo, expressed their satisfaction with the success of the route and reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to the Dominican Republic: “Air Europa believes in the growth and talent of Dominicans. A year ago we bet on Santiago, and today we celebrate a solid route, with high occupancy and great acceptance. We will continue connecting people, cultures and opportunities.”
Since its inauguration in June 2024, the direct flight between Santiago and Madrid has operated with 2 weekly frequencies aboard modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with 22 very comfortable Business class seats and 276 in tourist class, offering a comfortable, efficient and sustainable experience for travelers.
