Experts warn about loss of values and call for the formation of a new generation of leaders
Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo.- The International Training Organization (OIC) announced the holding of a seminar-workshop focused on transformational leadership, identity, and the nation, an initiative that seeks to provide tools to strengthen personal development, values, family, and leadership capacity in the face of the challenges facing Dominican society.
John Jairo Santiago, commercial director of the OIC, explained during an interview on De Último Minuto that the initiative stems from the need for those in leadership positions to begin by experiencing a process of personal transformation.
“The leader has to transform themselves and, if we do not transform, we are in trouble,” expressed Santiago, who highlighted the importance of self-knowledge and spiritual and emotional development to exercise leadership capable of positively impacting other people.
Santiago indicated that the OIC is an entity of Colombian origin with about 20 years of experience and nine years of presence in the Dominican Republic. He pointed out that, after the pandemic, they identified greater needs for emotional support and training in areas such as self-esteem, self-control, coexistence, and communication.
“We realized that there are shortcomings among people regarding the emotional side,” he/she maintained. Based on that reality, he/she explained, the organization decided to promote training aimed at developing better leaders and contributing to the transformation of lives.
National identity and values
During the interview, ministerial leader Wendy Acevedo emphasized the need to preserve the Dominican identity and pass it on to new generations. Acevedo considered that ignoring one’s origins can cause a society to lose its focus as a nation, which is why she called for strengthening the knowledge and defense of national identity among young people and leaders.
“We have to rise up to defend our identity, our homeland, and raise up young people and leaders who are aware that we must take care of and watch over the identity of the Dominican Republic,” he stated.
The leader maintained that knowing the identity of the Dominican people constitutes a fundamental element for working with emerging leadership and forming citizens committed to the country’s future.
Leadership “has to move to another level” to respond to the nation’s challenges
The seminar will feature, among its speakers, Guarionex Alcántara, who explained that during the session, topics related to the strengthening and defense of the family, the prevention of domestic violence, and values will be addressed.
Alcántara expressed concern about the episodes of violence occurring in different areas of society and considered it necessary to provide citizens with tools that allow them to properly manage conflict situations.

“Leadership has to scale, it has to go to another level in order to provide answers to this situation in our country,” he stated.
The speaker pointed out that problems of violence and coexistence do not correspond exclusively to a specific professional or social sector, but rather represent a phenomenon that involves society as a whole.
In that sense, he maintained that training allows people to be better prepared to react to conflicts and difficult situations, regardless of whether they are professionals, educators, communicators, police officers, military personnel, or political leaders.
A seminar open to different sectors
The organizers explained that the activity will not be limited to a specific audience. Women, men, entrepreneurs, religious and community leaders, youth, students, communicators, military personnel, police officers, and all those interested in strengthening their leadership skills will be able to participate.
As indicated, participants from different sectors have already registered, including political leaders, pastors, and members of the military forces.
The activity will take place on August 29th at the Club Los Prados in the National District from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, including an international certificate, support materials, a coffee break, and a complimentary Bible.
The organization also announced that this meeting constitutes the first cycle of a program that aims to continue developing training spaces on leadership.
Those responsible for the initiative highlighted that the ultimate goal is to promote leadership based on personal transformation, training, identity, coexistence, and values, as tools to contribute to the strengthening of the Dominican family and society.
