Santo Domingo. – Although in most countries Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, some nations maintain the tradition of paying tribute to mothers on the last Sunday of this month. Among them is the Dominican Republic, where this date is considered one of the most significant family celebrations of the year.
In addition to the Dominican Republic, other countries that also commemorate this event on the last Sunday of May are:
- France, where the “Fête des Mères” is celebrated with family gatherings, gifts, and school activities dedicated to mothers.
- Haiti, a neighboring nation that shares with the Dominican Republic not only the island, but also this emotional tradition.
- Algeria and some communities in Tunisia also recognize this date, influenced by the French tradition.
