Abinader announces acquisition of Santo Domingo Hotel land for construction of Convention and Exhibition Center

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader announced this Tuesday that the Government acquired the land of the Hotel Santo Domingo, with the purpose of building the new Convention and Exhibition Center of the capital, a work that he defined as transformative for the tourism and economic model of the country. The Head of State affirmed that this project will not only benefit the city of Santo Domingo, but will have a positive impact nationwide. “This success will not only be for the city of Santo Domingo, where they will have the immediate effects, but also for the whole country,” said Abinader, highlighting that the infrastructure will generate jobs, boost the economy and turn the capital into a key destination for convention and business tourism.

The president especially congratulated the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, as well as the Santo Domingo Hotels Association, for the support and joint work that have made this initiative a reality.

“We are sure that this will be a great project in favor of Santo Domingo and the entire country”, added Abinader, amidst the applause of representatives of the tourism and business sector present at the event.

For his part, Minister Collado pointed out that the country has achieved record figures in the arrival of international visitors and highlighted that the country brand “is in fashion and shines in the world.” He also stressed that the success achieved so far has been the result of the joint work between the Government, the private sector and tourism associations. The construction will have the technical advice of the Institución Ferial de Madrid (IFEMA), the consortium that organizes international fairs and congresses of great prestige, including the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).
