The Aguiluchos’ offense fired 12 unstoppable hits, with a fired-up Aderlin Rodríguez who became the great figure of the match. The starting player hit a three-run home run, in addition to a double and an RBI single, finishing 4-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Captain Juan Lagares also shone, going 4-3 with two RBIs.
The game started 32 minutes late due to ground conditioning work after the rain, which also forced the suspension of the other two games scheduled by LIDOM.
With the victory, the Eagles improved their record to 2-0, staying at the top of the young championship, while the Bulls are still winless (0-2).
The victory was credited to “Jordany Mézquita (1-0)”, who pitched 2.2 perfect innings in relief, retiring eight consecutive batters, including three by way of the strikeout. The loss went to “Franklin Kilomé (0-1)”, punished with four runs in just one inning.
For the Eagles, Randy Wynne opened the game and failed to complete the first inning (0.1 IP, 2 CL). Then, the yellow bullpen —made up of Mézquita, Pedro Payano, Óscar Rayo, Raúl Brito, Eric Cerantola, Jeuris Familia and Carlos Espinal— combined to contain the taurine offense.
The Toros used seven pitchers, with Emailin Montilla (1.1 IP, 2 ER) and Antonio Jiménez (0.1 IP, 3 ER) being the most punished. Joely Rodríguez, Tanner Kiest and Jesús Liranzo kept the score at zero, while Jorge Bautista and Joe Corbett allowed one run each.
