CCR Vista al Valle of SFM inmate dies; family demands investigation

San Francisco de Macorís. – Prison authorities confirmed the death of a man who was incarcerated at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) Vista al Valle, an event that has sparked strong controversy following statements from his relatives. The deceased was identified as Charles de Jesús Abreu María, 43 years old. His death occurred while he was in custody at the aforementioned penitentiary center in Duarte province, immediately activating medical-legal investigation protocols. They denounce alleged poisoning After the loss was confirmed, Abreu María’s family appeared before the media to reject the possibility of a natural death. According to their testimony, there are well-founded suspicions that the inmate may have been poisoned inside the compound.

Relatives demand that the Public Ministry and the direction of the New Penitentiary Management Model conduct a thorough investigation, alleging that the prison environment must guarantee the physical integrity of the inmates. Legal Procedures The body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the legal autopsy. This study will be crucial to confirm or rule out the presence of toxic substances in the deceased’s body, as claimed by his relatives. As of the closing of this note, the CCR Vista al Valle administration has not offered an official version regarding the prior health condition of the inmate or whether he presented emergency symptoms before his death. The deceased man was serving a sentence for the shooting death of his partner Clariza Rodriguez, which occurred in 2020 in this town.
