The Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic (CCRD) and the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) signed a collaboration agreement aimed at promoting transparency, internal control, accountability, and the training of local government employees. The signing of the agreement took place during the monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of Fedomu and was signed by the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Dr. Emma Polanco Melo, and the president of the federation and mayor of Samaná, Nelson Núñez. In her speech, the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Dr. Emma Polanco Melo, expressed, on behalf of the Plenary, her gratitude to Fedomu and its president for the spirit of cooperation and the commitment demonstrated to the institutional strengthening of local governments. “The signing of this agreement aims to establish a general framework for collaboration between both entities, aimed at fostering technical cooperation and the exchange of good practices. From the Chamber of Accounts we are in the best position to work with Fedomu to continue raising the quality and transparency in public management. You can count on us at all times, especially in the processes of sworn statements of assets,” pointed out the president of the CCRD. For his part, Nelson Núñez highlighted that, since the arrival of the current authorities of the Chamber of Accounts, the institution has shown a firm interest in supporting local governments. In that sense, he urged the mayors to see the auditing body as a strategic ally for the strengthening of their administrations. “This agreement will allow us to continue strengthening our processes. During our visits to the ten regional offices of Fedomu, the importance of compliance with asset declarations has been highlighted, and we are pleased to confirm that the majority of mayors have fulfilled this commitment,” said Nuñez, who also thanked the member of the Plenary, Francisco Franco, for having promoted the initiative of this agreement, which he described as a milestone in favor of municipal transparency. The collaboration agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation and assistance on issues of common interest, especially in terms of technical support, with the purpose of improving the administration of public resources and the planning of projects executed by Fedomu and its associates. It also includes monitoring the process of sworn statements of assets of municipal officials and the presentation of institutional budgetary accountability reports, through training programs and technical support.
