Chicago.- A federal judge temporarily blocked on Thursday the deployment of the National Guard in Illinois, ordered by the Trump Administration to protect immigration raids in that state, after a contingent of 200 Texas soldiers was sent two days ago to the Chicago area. Magistrate April M. Perry announced that she will issue a temporary restraining order limiting the mobilization of troops in Illinois, considering that there is no “credible evidence” of a risk of “rebellion”, an argument with which the representatives of the Department of Justice (DOJ) tried to justify the deployment.

The hearing lasted about six hours – with two breaks – and included extensive interventions by the prosecution and the U.S. government, which tasked the National Guard with protecting agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) in Chicago during their mass arrest campaign as part of Operation Midway Blitz.
