Embassy of Japan inaugurates exhibition of 2026 calendars and traditional costumes

It will remain open to the public until Thursday, January 29th in the East corridor of Galería 360. During this time, martial arts workshops and other cultural activities will be held.

Santo Domingo.- The Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with Gallery 360, inaugurated the exhibition “Calendar of Japan and traditional costumes”, available until January 29, 2026, during an event that brought together families and lovers of Japanese culture.

The welcome remarks were given by María Elena Cruz, representing Galería 360, who highlighted that this initiative seeks to bring the Dominican public closer to a tradition that is part of the day-to-day life in Japanese homes. She also thanked the Embassy of Japan for this collaboration, “which has already become a tradition for our visitors, and for choosing us again as a space to share their culture“. Ambassador Osamu Hayakawa, in delivering the keynote speech, highlighted that this exhibition – which is already a tradition – brings together nearly 80 calendars with beautiful photographs that portray Japanese culture, its landscapes, gardens, and daily activities. He stated that these calendars, along with the traditional costumes, bring visitors closer to the daily life, values, and cultural expressions of Japan through images full of beauty and meaning.

“It’s an opportunity to learn more about Japan from a close and authentic perspective,” he expressed. During the activity, the public enjoyed an aikido demonstration presented by the Traditional and Cultural Association of Aikido Aikikai RD, as well as a talk on bonsai and suiseki given by Víctor Liriano, from the Liriano Cultural Center, and a mini Japanese class by Mr. Ito Hikaru, cultural attaché of the Embassy of Japan. The exhibition offers a journey through the essence of Japan through images, symbols, and artistic expressions that reflect aspects deeply rooted in the daily life of its people. This will remain open to the public until Thursday, January 29. During these days, martial arts workshops and other cultural activities will also be held.
