Santo Domingo. – Within the framework of the celebration of “A STEP FOR MY FAMILY: WITH HOPE, WALKING TOWARDS EASTER”, the National Family Commission of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, pronounced its resounding rejection of the decision of the Constitutional Court that legalizes homosexual relations within the military organizations National Police and Armed Forces of the Dominican Republic.
In a message addressed to the entire Dominican community, they expressed that this sentence leads to a lack of values, ethics and morals, so in order to make a call for attention, they express their discontent and assure that this has shocked the entire nation.

The following is the full message:

We express our deep CONCERN, CONSTERNATION, and REJECTION of the decision of the Constitutional Court, contained in judgment TC/1225/25, which eliminates the sanctions that penalized consensual relationships between people of the same sex within the National Police and the Armed Forces of the Dominican Republic. You can also read: With the announcement of the sentence, the nation was SHOCKED. This unexpected decision has perplexed citizens, lawmakers, authorities, institutions, and all of national life. There is no clear explanation for the origin, motivation, or interests behind this measure, which is why it would be necessary to seriously study its social, cultural, geopolitical, and even financial implications. We all know that the anthropology of the Dominican people, their culture, their ethical and moral values, and the roots that have given cohesion to our identity as a nation, do not admit such provisions within the military bodies. The National Police and the Armed Forces are not simply administrative bodies; they are sacred institutions, pillars of order, discipline, the mystique of service, the protection of the common good, and the defense of sovereignty. We cannot ignore that human nature is created and ordered according to the design of its Creator, and every creature must orient itself towards Him. Otherwise, there is a risk of disorienting and distorting it. Its beauty is manifested in the complementarity with which it was made: man and woman, called to complement each other within marriage and family. The family, founded on the marriage between a man and a woman, finds its fullness in the unity of dad, mom, and children. We believe that any reform affecting the structure or internal functioning of these institutions must be carried out with extreme care, with respect for military discipline, good customs, family values, and the principles that shape those who dedicate their lives to serving the Homeland. Allowing such profound changes without a serious analysis forces us to ask ourselves: How would the military academies of tomorrow be? How would the barracks be? What kind of army would we have to defend the Nation?

Because, although some claim that “one thing has nothing to do with the other”, we know that everything influences the life of the human person: the attitudes that lead us to good influence, and those that distance us from it influence. One thing is the private decision of an individual; another very different thing is that the State legitimizes or officializes practices within institutions whose raison d’être demands exemplarity, structure, discipline and moral transparency.
It is legitimate to ask whether, when repealing or modifying laws, the social fabric, the founding principles of the homeland, the culture that defines us, and the anthropology of this noble people who have known how to build themselves under the protection of faith and family values are even analyzed.

Therefore, faced with the MISTAKE of this ruling, we firmly declare that WE WILL NOT BE SILENT and WE WILL NOT STAND IDLY BY. Families, civil society, churches, and responsible citizens will always defend the principles that have allowed us to remain a stable, hardworking, believing nation, and a defender of its identity. We urge the competent authorities, especially the President of the Republic, to act with historical responsibility and not allow decisions made without due analysis to compromise the moral integrity of fundamental institutions for the future of the country. May Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, strengthen us in this hour when the values that sustain our coexistence are being tested. May his light allow us to discern clearly and his grace keep us firm in the truth. And may the Blessed Virgin Mary cover our families with her maternal mantle, especially protecting the stability of the Dominican home. Long live Jesus Christ, King of the Universe!
