The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic lowered, in the month of May, the economic growth expectation for the year 2026 to 3.80%, recovering from the 3.75% estimated in April.

According to the monthly Macroeconomic Expectations report from the Central Bank, this improvement in estimates is associated with the behavior of the international environment, the recent evolution of investment, and the tourism sector.

However, the May projections remain below the 4.00% that was projected at the beginning of the year.

However, they improve their outlook for 2027, raising the forecast to 4.50%, 35 basis points above the previous month.

The monthly economic activity indicator (IMAE) showed an accumulated average growth of 4.0% during the first four months of 2026, higher than the 2.7% of the same period of the previous year.

The growth achieved in the first four months of the year is mainly due to the year-on-year expansion of the real value added of the mining sector (10.7%), construction (4.6%), free trade zone manufacturing (3.7%), local manufacturing (3.6%), agriculture (2.7%), and the activities of the services sector as a whole (4.4%), with education (6.7%), financial services (6.2%), hotels, bars and restaurants (5.9%), health (5.7%), transport and storage (4.9%), and other market service activities (4.6%) standing out among the latter.
