Houthi rebels held a military funeral procession on Monday in the Yemeni capital under the group’s control since 2014, Sana’a, to bid farewell to the late Chief of Staff of the insurgents, Mohamed al Ghamari, assassinated in an Israeli bombing and whose death was announced last week.

Subsequently, the coffins were transported in armored military vehicles, leading a procession preceded by presidential ceremonial motorcycles. The procession headed to the Unknown Soldier monument, located in the center of Sabeen Square, where the Houthis bury their high-ranking officials. Al Ghamari, one of the group’s main military figures and a key member of the Houthi Jihad Council, was praised by the speakers during the funeral as a key figure in the construction and organization of the group’s forces. Sources close to the Houthis told EFE, on condition of anonymity, that the military leader suffered serious injuries in an Israeli air strike against Sana’a in mid-June, but his son and two bodyguards died immediately in the attack. However, the Houthis imposed an information blackout on the attack until they announced the deaths last Thursday, without referencing the Israeli airstrike. However, its statement affirmed that Al Ghamari died “in the fulfillment of his duty” and emphasized that its conflict with Israel was far from over, while warning the Jewish State that it “will receive its deterrent punishment for the crimes it has committed”. In the last two years, the group launched missiles towards Israel claiming solidarity with the Palestinians of Gaza, but most of the projectiles were intercepted, while the Israeli Army responded with air strikes against Houthi targets and infrastructure in the areas it controls.
