Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) completed the delivery of the 16 sports facilities that were under its responsibility for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The event was led by President Luis Abinader, together with the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, who formally delivered the new Taekwondo Pavilion and the renovated Volleyball Competition Pavilion, the last two infrastructures completed by the MIVHED within the intervention program developed at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and the Parque del Este for the celebration of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
During his speech, Minister Bisonó stated that the works represent much more than sports facilities. “Today, in addition to pavilions, we are delivering the fulfilled word of a Government. Because great works transcend governments when they are done with the people in mind,” the official expressed.
For his part, the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, indicated that with these deliveries the country has quality sports spaces certified at an international level, positioning the nation at a regional level.
“We are talking about having a great sports complex with these pavilions and the basketball arena,” said Cruz, who also highlighted the investment of resources made by the Government so that the sports federations could have prepared for these games.

Likewise, the president of the Women’s National Teams program (Senafe), Cristóbal Marte, expressed his gratitude for the delivery of these pavilions and promised that these facilities will be taken care of so that future generations can practice in quality venues.

Bisonó highlighted that President Luis Abinader’s vision was to leverage the hosting of the Central American and Caribbean Games to drive a transformation of the national sports infrastructure that will benefit thousands of athletes and families long after the event has concluded.
He explained that, upon assuming management of the ministry in January of this year, the MIVHED found a decisive stage of the project, characterized by a demanding critical path and deadlines that required permanent monitoring to guarantee the timely delivery of each facility.

The minister highlighted that the project’s success was possible thanks to permanent coordination between the institutions involved, such as the Ministry of Sports, the Santo Domingo 2026 Organizing Committee, and Centro Caribe Sports.
Sixteen renovated facilities for Santo Domingo 2026
With an investment of nearly RD$9 billion, the MIVHED executed the construction and remodeling of 16 sports facilities distributed between the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and the Parque del Este, including the Félix Sánchez Stadium track, the Taekwondo, Volleyball, Fencing, Karate, Chess, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, and Handball pavilions; the Aquatic Center; the Softball A and B and Baseball 3 fields; the Archery field, and the Training Volleyball pavilion.
The interventions incorporated certified competition areas, bleachers, medical spaces, locker rooms, offices, electrical and sanitary systems, lighting, technology, accessibility, and complementary services, in accordance with international standards for high-performance sports.
At the conclusion of his speech, Bisonó assured that the true success of the project will be the legacy it leaves for future generations.
“In a few days the competitions will begin, the medals will arrive, and the Games will conclude. But these facilities will remain. This legacy will remain. Here, thousands of children and young people will train, finding in these spaces the opportunity to build their dreams,” stated the minister.
At the end of the activity, President Abinader and Minister Bisonó witnessed a friendly volleyball match between the national teams of the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
