Residents of Los Girasoles speak out about losses and fear after floods due to rains

Distrito Nacional. – Residents of the Los Girasoles sector, Distrito Nacional, raised their voices due to the difficult conditions they face every time it rains, assuring that the floods cause material losses and keep several families in the area in a state of concern. Mari Campuzano, reported that during the heavy downpour the water reached a considerable level inside her home, causing damage to her belongings. “I lost everything. The water reached up to here. I still have the mattress wet and the bed damaged”, she expressed while showing the conditions in which her home remains. The resident stated that since the incident she lives in fear every time it rains due to the possibility of the situation repeating itself. “Since a drop of water falls, I am with nerves that I can’t stand,” she maintained, also indicating that she suffers from health problems.

He also denounced the lack of assistance from the authorities and community organizations, stating that they have not received help so far. He also called for intervention in the area’s drainage system, pointing out that the filters or drains become blocked and cause water to accumulate. “They have to fix that because it gets blocked and the water reaches all the way up there,” he stated.
