Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly suspended the military operation ‘Project Freedom’ to militarily secure the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, because Saudi Arabia suspended the ability of American armed forces to use its bases and airspace, due to the kingdom’s annoyance, according to NBC.

Trump’s decision to suspend the plan to escort ships, just three days after launching the project, is because Rihad would have received the Republican’s decision with “anger”, according to two officials cited anonymously by the American media. The Republican is said to have held a phone call with Prince Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, but upon not finding a positive response decided to suspend the plan with which, for the time being, he had only managed to escort a reduced number of merchant ships through the strait.

Other U.S. allies in the Gulf would not have been informed until after the operation began on Sunday afternoon, as was the case with Qatar, according to NBC.

The Negotiations Between the U.S. and Iran

Trump asserted that the suspension of the plan was due to a request from Pakistan to try to get a supposed peace proposal from Tehran to achieve a ceasefire.

This Wednesday, Trump in the Oval Office said that there are “very good” conversations with Iran and said that it is possible to reach an agreement soon.

Trump’s words coincide with reports published today by the Axios portal, which assures that Washington would be waiting for an Iranian response in the next 48 hours on several key points of a proposal to agree on the definitive end of the conflict and establish a framework for broader negotiations on the Persian country’s nuclear program. According to White House officials cited by the portal, this is the moment when both parties have been closest to reaching an agreement since the beginning of the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28th. Both sides are in an indefinite ceasefire to advance negotiations that until now remained stalled.
