During dates of high influx of people in the capital of the state Zulia, such as every November 18th for the celebration of La Chinita Day, having resuscitation technology and trained personnel can make a vital difference for citizen security. Thousands of people annually visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá to pay homage to the Virgin of Chiquinquirá. To support the parishioners, Seguros Venezuela donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which will be available to attend to any emergency due to sudden cardiac arrest that may occur among the attendees. With this contribution, made in partnership between Seguros Venezuela, Fundación Veneasistencia and the Basilica, the center of Maracaibo becomes a cardioprotected zone. The AED is a vital resource for handling cardiovascular emergencies. Its objective is to provide a rapid and effective response that can save lives, as every second is crucial in these situations. In this sense, an AED allows an electric shock to be applied in the first minutes, before the ambulance arrives, which can raise the survival rate from 20 to 80%. To complement the installation, basic life support courses were given to members of the parish, training them to act as first responders in an emergency.
Approach and well-being
The important equipment, donated by Seguros Venezuela, was installed after a thanksgiving mass. “Maracaibo becomes a safer city. This project is very valuable to us, as it allows us to continue supporting the community and having a direct approach with it,” said the executive president of the insurance company, Carmen Alicia Guillén. She highlighted that with this initiative, the safety and well-being of the people of Maracaibo are being put first.
