Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, reported that 483,862 families benefiting from the ‘Bono a Mil’ (Thousand-Peso Bonus) already had the funds available in their bank accounts as of last Sunday, as part of the support intended to cover expenses related to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
De Camps explained that the Government allocated RD$1.251 billion to impact families of public sector students and pointed out that the bonus, whose purpose is to contribute to the economic peace of mind of households, is delivered between August and January.
“Currently, 58% of that amount is in the accounts of the beneficiary families. We are talking about 483,862 families that already had their resources yesterday, Sunday,” the official stated.
In that sense, President Luis Abinader urged the beneficiaries who have not yet withdrawn the funds to do so, in order to cover the expenses corresponding to the start of the school year.
The information was offered during the first broadcast of “The Weekly Agenda“, the new communication modality of the Dominican Government, which coincided with the start of the school year and is led by President Abinader.
The opening of the 2026-2027 school year was led by Abinader and De Camps at the Espejo Milagrosa de Cancela La Ureña School, in Santo Domingo Este.

During the meeting, educational authorities addressed four main pillars: school preparation; infrastructure and well-being; educational quality; and education for the future.
De Camps maintained that, ahead of the start of the school year, the authorities managed to identify the teachers and non-teaching staff required throughout the national territory.
Likewise, he indicated that for the 2026-2027 school year, more than 8,000 educational centers are enabled, with an enrollment of over two million students. He also highlighted the incorporation of hundreds of school transport units to facilitate the mobilization of students.

This Monday also formally began the broadcast of “La Agenda Semanal”, a program led by President Luis Abinader and disseminated through the Presidency’s social media channels.
