Three months of pretrial detention are ordered against a municipal employee accused of sexual abuse in Barahona

Barahona.– The Office of Judicial Services of Permanent Attention of the Judicial District of Barahona imposed three months of preventive detention as a coercive measure against a man linked to the municipality, accused of alleged sexual abuse against several minors. The decision was adopted by magistrate Ángel Caraballo, judge of Permanent Attention of this jurisdiction, who accepted the request presented by the Public Ministry, after considering that there is sufficient evidence linking the accused to the reported events. The processed individual was identified only by their initials, N.F.S., 25 years old, who worked as an employee of the Municipal Council of a municipality in this southern province. The authorities explained that the use of initials responds to compliance with Law 136-03, which establishes the protection of the identity of children and adolescents involved in judicial processes. According to the indictment, the defendant allegedly used the WhatsApp messaging application to contact and seduce teenagers whose ages were around 12 years old. Preliminary investigations indicate that he allegedly organized sexual encounters in exchange for providing them with electronic cigarettes, known as “vapers”.

The arrest took place in the Ciudad Juan Bosch sector, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, following intelligence work. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Gender and Intrafamily Violence Victim Assistance Unit of Barahona for the formal commencement of the judicial process. The court ordered the defendant to comply with the coercive measure in the Public Prison of Barahona while the investigations continue. The technical defense of the accused retains the right to request a review of the measure or to file an appeal in accordance with the provisions of the criminal procedural regulations.
