“From humble origins, he managed to become one of the most powerful voices in defense of democracy, social justice, and the rights of the most vulnerable sectors,” he expressed. He pointed out that the historic leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party knew how to interpret the aspirations of broad sectors of Dominican society, becoming a true mass leader and a firm defender of public freedoms. “Peña Gómez’s legacy transcends the electoral processes in which he participated. His fundamental contribution was to strengthen the country’s democratic culture and promote a vision of development based on social inclusion, citizen participation, and respect for human dignity,” he stated. García Fermín also highlighted the international dimension of the Dominican political leader, who gained recognition in different arenas of social democratic thought and the defense of human rights. The former rector of UASD affirmed that remembering the figure of Peña Gómez within the academy implies reflecting on the responsibility of educational institutions in the formation of citizens committed to democratic values.Upon concluding the event, the organizers placed the floral offering before the bust of the political leader, as a sign of recognition for his historical legacy and his permanent influence on the democratic life of the country.
