Unknown individuals shoot at vehicle of CCR Rafey’s deputy director and wound public transport driver in Santiago

Santiago.- Unknown individuals on a motorcycle shot at the vehicle in which the deputy director of the Rafey Correction and Rehabilitation Center was traveling on Friday night, in an incident that occurred in the Monterico sector, of the Santiago Oeste municipal district, leaving a public transport driver seriously injured. The official, identified as Laura, was traveling in a white Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV and was unharmed during the attack, despite the vehicle receiving at least seven bullet impacts, according to preliminary information. During the shooting, Crecencio Nolasco Cruz, driver of route F, who was passing through the area at the time of the incident, was hit by a shot. The man was rushed to the José María Cabral y Báez regional university hospital, where he remains admitted in a delicate condition.

The attack occurred around 6:25 in the evening, when the deputy director was leaving to have dinner from a commercial establishment known as Petecom Pollo, located on Tamboril Avenue, in the Monterico sector. According to reports, the attackers approached the vehicle and opened fire without a word, immediately fleeing in an unknown direction. Agents from the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) arrived at the scene to collect evidence, gather shell casings, and deepen the investigations with the aim of identifying those responsible and establishing the motives for the attack. So far, the authorities have not offered further details about the case nor have they reported whether the attack was specifically directed against the official or if it was a circumstantial event.
