Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities dealt a blow to drug trafficking and organized crime, with the seizure of 834 packages presumably of cocaine and marijuana, and the arrest of two men off the coast of Pedernales.
The operation was led by the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the support of the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD), the Air Force (FARD), State intelligence agencies and under the coordination of the Public Ministry.

According to authorities, the operation was activated after receiving intelligence reports that warned about a Go Fast type vessel, which intended to introduce a significant amount of drugs into the country. The pursuit lasted for more than 12 hours, until the boat was finally intercepted south of Isla Beata.
On the vessel, 33 bales were found containing 720 packages of a white powder, presumably cocaine, and 114 of a plant presumed to be marijuana, totaling 834 packages. A portable radio, a GPS, four cell phones, fuel containers, two outboard motors, water, energy drinks, and other objects used in this type of operation were also seized.

The detainees were identified as Richard Gómez Matos and Joan Manuel Cabrera Rodríguez, both of Dominican nationality. They will be presented in the coming hours before the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of Pedernales, to determine coercive measures for violation of Law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances.
The seized packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), where they will be analyzed to determine the exact type and weight of the substances.
