CNM begins evaluation of Supreme Court of Justice judges

Santo Domingo.- The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM), headed by President Luis Abinader, began this Thursday the evaluation of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice who have served seven years in their positions. According to the Constitution, Law 138-11 and Regulation 1-25, magistrates Pilar Jiménez Ortiz, Manuel Alexis Read Ortiz and Moisés Ferrer Landrón will be evaluated.

Although seven years have also passed since the appointment of Blas Rafael Fernández Gómez, he will not be evaluated after communicating his decision not to opt for a new term, as established by article 5 of the Regulation 2-25. The evaluation, which is carried out every seven years, seeks to measure the jurisdictional productivity, as well as the integrity, independence, and reputation of the magistrates. Among the technical indicators are the number of sentences issued, ethical and personal criteria, discipline, punctuality, and academic production. Following the recent modification of the regulations, the CNM can decide whether the interviews will be public or private, with the exception of the president of the Supreme Court, which must always be broadcast publicly. On this occasion, the interviews of the three judges will be broadcast. During the process, the judges may present a summary of their profile, explain their actions in the last seven years, and present their proposals for improvement. Subsequently, the members of the Council may ask questions about different judicial aspects.
