Santo Domingo.- Thousands of Catholic faithful will participate this Thursday in the Corpus Christi celebrations throughout the country, one of the most important solemnities of the liturgical calendar, characterized by processions, decorative carpets, prayers, and public manifestations of faith.
The festivity commemorates the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and its central act is the procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of the communities. In the twelve dioceses of the Dominican Republic, parishioners will accompany priests and bishops who will carry the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament, while chanting hymns, praying the rosary, and throwing flower petals in its path.
One of the most representative traditions of this celebration is the creation of colorful carpets on the streets, made with flowers, sawdust, and other materials. This custom is maintained especially in cities such as La Vega, San Francisco de Macorís, Baní, Barahona, Higüey, and Greater Santo Domingo, where believers spend hours preparing the designs through which the procession later passes.

In the capital, the activities will culminate with a large gathering of the faithful in the gardens of the Quisqueya School at 4:00 p.m., led by Coadjutor Archbishop Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán. The participation of representatives from more than 200 parishes belonging to the National District and various pastoral zones of the Archdiocese is expected.
Meanwhile, in Santiago de los Caballeros, the main celebration will be presided over by Héctor Rafael Rodríguez at the Cibao Stadium. In La Vega, the events will be led by the apostolic administrator bishop Amable Durán Tineo.
