DGM stops group of undocumented motorcyclists near Azua

Azua.- Taking advantage of the darkness of midnight and winding through the roads and bushes of the Cigueñal sector, here, 8 Haitian nationals and one Dominican, driving motorcycles, were caught by units of the General Directorate of Migration transporting, together, 38 undocumented people. The group of undocumented immigrants was intercepted by immigration agents as they attempted to reach Santo Domingo. The successful interdiction operation was possible due to the intelligence and surveillance work carried out by the authorities of the DGM, on routes that have been identified as being used by criminals for the trafficking of illegals.

In the group, a Dominican who participated in the immigration crime was arrested, who was carrying 4 undocumented immigrants on his motorcycle. The DGM said that he will be brought to justice for violation of Law 285-04. Haitian nationals who tried to settle in the country were transferred to the Haina Detention Center where they will be identified and processed following established protocols, prior to being deported to their place of origin. The DGM reiterated its commitment to continue strengthening its operational and coordination capabilities to continue facing migration challenges, in order to strengthen security and guarantee citizens’ tranquility and well-being.
