Santiago.– Outrage erupted this Thursday in the municipality of Villa González, when dozens of community members marched to demand the immediate arrest of six men accused of raping Génesis Peña, 21 years old, after a video of the act circulated on social media.
Protesters denounced the
authorities’ indifference, as those involved —residents of Los Jiménez, La Javilla and La Lomita— continue to move freely despite the seriousness of the crime.
“We will not accept silence or impunity. We want justice now,” they expressed in front of the police detachment, warning that they will not stop the protests until they see them behind bars.
Family members of the victim reported that Peña had gone out to a nightclub with a friend the night of the assault, so they asked that she also be investigated. With frustration and pain, they pointed out that, although they have gone to the
Prosecutor’s Office of Santiago on several occasions, the case is not progressing, as if “the young girl’s life did not matter.”

The march, marked by banners and slogans of repudiation, reflects the growing discontent in the community, which demands that this crime not go unpunished and that strong precedents be set against sexual violence.
The event happened last
March, but it was only the previous Friday when it came to public light with the dissemination of the video.
