Faride on report of sexual assault against former cadet: “The institution does not protect acts of abuse against women”

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, assured this Monday that no State institution “protects or will protect” those who commit acts of harassment, abuse or violence against women, regardless of the aggressor’s rank or position. Raful’s statements, offered through his account on the social network X, arise following the denunciation of an alleged sexual assault committed by an officer of the National Police against a former cadet of the Major General José Félix Rafael Hermida González Cadet School.

“The institution reaffirms its commitment to transparency and respect for due process, and makes it clear that it does not and will never protect acts of harassment, abuse or violence against women, under any circumstances and regardless of who commits them,” said the minister.

Raful reported that the accused officer was preventively suspended while a formal investigation is carried out to clarify the facts.

The victim’s mother gave statements on the television program El Show del Mediodía, where she accused Major José Manuel Luciano Soriano, deputy director of the police academy, of having drugged and raped her daughter. The case remains under investigation while the authorities assure they will act “in accordance with due process and without impunity.”
