Raful reported that an inter-institutional meeting will be convened to define clear guidelines to regulate the use of electric scooters and guarantee greater safety. “We have decided to hold a meeting this very week to establish how their use will be regulated, since the lives of many minors are currently being exposed,” he said. The official indicated that the Attorney General’s Office and the other institutions that make up the Task Force will participate in the process, with the aim of establishing regulations that promote the safe and responsible use of these devices. Electric scooters have become popular in recent months as a means of transportation and recreation, especially among minors, which has generated concern about the lack of regulation, supervision, and permits in businesses that sell or rent them. In that context, the National Police has initiated operations in sectors of San Francisco de Macorís to control the indiscriminate use of these devices and prevent accidents.Government will assess regulation of the use of electric scooters due to risks to minors
Santo Domingo.– Dominican authorities will evaluate this week the regulation of the use of scooters and electric motors, given the growing concern about the risks that these devices pose to children and adolescents, after accidents have been recorded that have endangered their lives.
The information was provided by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, after the meeting of the Task Force headed by President Luis Abinader, in which the dangers associated with the uncontrolled use of these means of transport were addressed.
