Marranzini assures that by the summer of 2026 there will be no blackouts in the DR

Santo Domingo.– The president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), Celso Marranzini, stated that by the summer of 2026 there will be no suspension of the electricity service in the country, thanks to the advances in the reduction of losses, network renewal and improvements in the national energy infrastructure.

In LA Semanal with the press, Marranzini explained that the sector’s current deficit amounts to 1.7 billion dollars, of which about 850 million correspond to subsidies, however, he assured that strong measures are being taken to reverse this situation.

“Estamos trabajando en las subestaciones, en las redes deterioradas, y en disminuir las pérdidas en el sector eléctrico, pero esas pérdidas superan los 10 puntos porcentuales y representan una de las principales causas del déficit financiero del sistema”,

señaló.

The official also called on citizens, denouncing that a significant part of the problem comes from users who do not pay for the electricity service.

“Estamos realizando campañas de concientización porque si no pagas el servicio eléctrico, le estás haciendo un daño al presupuesto y a la economía dominicana. Esos recursos deberían usarse para otras prioridades nacionales”,

expresó Marranzini.

Likewise, President Luis Abinader highlighted that the country is experiencing the highest level of investment in the electricity sector in recent years, which will allow strengthening the generation, distribution, and sustainability of the service.
