Public Ministry investigates the death of a prisoner in the Ciudad Nueva prison

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry reported this Monday that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a prisoner “suffering from health problems” while in the Ciudad Nueva Detention and Deprivation of Liberty Center (Caplip-2). The man was identified as Alexander Pérez Santana, whose death occurred yesterday, according to a statement from the Public Ministry.

On November 20th, a judge from the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District imposed three months of preventive detention. His transfer was scheduled for the San Pedro de Macorís Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR San Pedro de Macorís). According to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), Pérez Santana “suffered from chronic illnesses that led to his death,” according to the report.
