Public Ministry requests preventive detention against Johanna Madera for recidivism in cybercrimes and defamation campaign

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry formally requested the First Chamber of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District the variation of the coercive measure imposed on Johanna del Carmen Madera de Stanley, convicted of cybercrimes, after alleging that the accused has continued to commit criminal acts, despite having a valid conviction. In the deposited instance, the prosecuting body recalls that Madera de Stanley was sentenced in November 2024 to three years in prison by the First Collegiate Court of the National District, after it was proven that she impersonated the identity of Karla Fitch to threaten parents of the Mundo Creativo Montessori School, generating panic and security mobilization in the educational institution.

However, only three months after said sentence, the Public Prosecutor’s Office brought a second case against the accused, for allegedly having threatened the President of the Republic with death and the communicators Jaime Rincón and Julio Manuel Sierra, again using the identity of the same citizen. The file also includes a third criminal act attributed to Madera de Stanley, who allegedly funded the communicator Ingrid Altagracia Jorge Pérez to carry out a defamation and slander campaign against the deputy prosecutor Iván Félix Vargas, responsible for the investigation that led to his first conviction. According to the instance, Ingrid Jorge publicly confessed to having acted under instructions and with resources provided by the accused. Given these facts, and since the original budgets have been altered that justified less severe measures, the Public Ministry requested the application of Article 238 of the Criminal Procedure Code, asking that preventive detention be imposed against Madera de Stanley in the Najayo Women’s Penitentiary Center, replacing the current travel ban and financial guarantee. The prosecuting body reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against technological crimes and the protection of public institutions, urging the Court of Appeals to accept the request in the interest of the general interest and the prevention of new crimes.
