Santo Domingo Metro enables payment with bank cards at stations

Santo Domingo.– The Santo Domingo Metro continues to incorporate improvements aimed at facilitating access and user comfort. Among the most recent innovations is the enabling of fare payment via bank cards and digital wallets, eliminating the need to use the traditional rechargeable card. Responding to passenger requests, the Santo Domingo Transportation System has enabled an exclusive lane for this payment method. Users can use VISA credit or debit cards, as well as those that incorporate EMV technology or the contactless payment symbol. The use of compatible digital wallets is also accepted.

Stations where the pilot plan operates

The initial phase of the system operates in 11 stations of the Metro and the Teleférico Línea 1. Metro Line 2: Maria Montez, Pedro Bono, Gregorio Billini, Ulises Espaillat, Pedro Mir, Eduardo Brito, and Concepcion Bona. Cable Car Line 1: Charles de Gaulle.

Fare integration of transport

This innovation is part of the Integrated Transportation Fare concept, which allows passengers to pay a single amount to make trips with transfers between different means that are part of the Integrated Transportation System (SIT). In Santo Domingo, the SIT is currently composed of the Teleférico de Los Alcarrizos, new OMSA bus routes within the integrated system, and the Independencia Avenue corridor. With these measures, the authorities seek to modernize urban mobility and simplify the travel experience for public transport users.
