Santo Domingo. – Users of the Santo Domingo Metro expressed their indignation at the chaos generated by the suspension of service between the Hermanas Mirabal and Mamá Tingó stations, in Villa Mella, on the first day of the scheduled closure.
Those affected pointed out that the average travel time, which usually takes about five minutes, has extended to an hour due to traffic congestion.
“There is a lack of coordination in transportation. Although the lines flow, the buses make the complete route and pick up passengers at all stops, even if they are full,” expressed Brígida Matos.
For his part, Chong Ken commented that, although the alternative service seems agile for being the first day, delays are already noticeable due to disorganization.
He also indicated that vehicular traffic was affected during the morning due to the transfer of one of the new Metro cars, which caused a major traffic jam.
The service suspension is due to the final works to expand the capacity of Metro Line 1, which will allow the circulation of six-car trains.
According to the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET), the closure of these stations will be maintained from Wednesday, July 16th to Sunday, July 20th.
