Senator Dagoberto Rodriguez calls Aerodom’s blackouts at AILA irresponsible.

SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- Senator Dagoberto Rodríguez described as an “irresponsibility” of the administration of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) the blackout of almost nine hours recorded last Sunday at the Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA), which caused cancellations and delays in multiple flights. Rodríguez maintained that neither the Government nor the electricity distribution company Edeeste are responsible for what happened, pointing out that the concessionaire should have had a “plan B” to deal with these types of situations.

“It is very regrettable what has happened, but Aerodom is the one who has to take into account what can happen and see further”, expressed the legislator, while urging the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the real causes of the electrical failure and prevent its repetition. “It’s not the State, it’s the leasing company that has to do with that,” Rodríguez pointed out. Meanwhile, the Airport Department reported that it has already initiated an investigation and requested an official report from Aerodom regarding the power outage that affected the terminal on Sunday. However, the situation was repeated a few hours later. In the early hours of this Monday, around 2:00 a.m., the AILA again registered an interruption of the electrical service. Aerodom explained that, on this occasion, it was a scheduled outage to allow the replacement of a generator and assured that, after the intervention, the service was restored and operations resumed normally in a “safe and timely” manner.
