Santiago Rodríguez .– A smuggling operation of 80,000 units of Capital brand cigarettes was discovered in a truck during a vehicle inspection carried out in the community of Alto del Cana, Santiago Rodríguez province.
Members of the Dominican Republic Army stopped the Hyundai truck, white in color, license plate L361902, in which the smuggled goods were hidden between the chassis and the bed of the aforementioned vehicle, thus attempting to evade security devices.

Military personnel had to dismantle part of the truck bed to detect the illegal cigarettes, which were being transported by Simón Tadeo Fernández, driver, and Kelvin Samuel Duran Cerda, passenger, who will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the relevant legal purposes.
The contraband will be delivered under certification to the Specialized Fuel Control Corps (CECOOM), in accordance with the law.
