San Pedro de Macorís, R.D. – The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led the inauguration this Friday of two new industrial warehouses and the remodeling of the entrance to the San Pedro de Macorís Free Zone Park, administered by the Industrial Development and Competitiveness Center (Proindustria).
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor Bisonó, and the general director of Proindustria, Rafael Cruz Rodríguez, also participated in the event. The new buildings belong to the company Operadora Zona Franca del Este 23, with an investment of 4 million dollars destined to boost the expansion and modernization of this industrial space.
During the ceremony, Vice President Raquel Peña expressed that these two ships mean more space for production, more opportunities for our entrepreneurs, but, above all, communities that develop.
“As our president Luis Abinader has said, free trade zones are spaces of opportunity, and here, in San Pedro de Macorís, those opportunities are multiplying,” Peña pointed out.
Likewise, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor Bisonó, highlighted that this inauguration is a clear sign that San Pedro continues to bet on work, investment and a vision for the future. “Here, investment turns into jobs, technology meets creativity, and opportunities begin to multiply for our people,” he indicated.
According to the official, in this first stage, the Zona Franca del Este 23 will generate 1,000 direct jobs, with the potential to grow to nearly 6,000 at its maximum production capacity.
In that same order, during his intervention, Rafael Cruz Rodríguez, general director of Proindustria, emphasized that “every time an industrial building is inaugurated, not only is infrastructure delivered; new opportunities for investment, employment, and innovation are opened.”
“Currently, this park has 123 industrial buildings, housing companies from various sectors, including jewelry, textiles, medical devices, plastics, and footwear. This diversity is a clear example of the potential we have as a nation to be a world-class industrial hub. It produces 35% of all jobs in the parks managed by PROINDUSTRIA, approaching 10,000 direct jobs in the coming months,” said Cruz Rodríguez.
He added that the role of Proindustria is to ensure that these spaces have the optimal conditions for companies to grow and remain competitive, thereby strengthening the national productive apparatus.
The Free Zone of San Pedro de Macorís is one of the most relevant production hubs in the region, where companies from the textile, medical devices, jewelry, footwear and plastics sectors operate, generating thousands of formal jobs and contributing to the growth of national exports

This project, the result of the alliance between the State and the private sector, includes the construction of 35 industrial buildings in a total area of 2.54 million square feet, generating more than 7,000 direct jobs. In its first stage, 80,000 square feet have already been delivered in two new buildings, added to the six built in 2020, in addition to the remodeling of facilities that benefit more than 10,000 workers.
This was announced during the inauguration by its directors José Enrique Yaber and Eduardo Bogaert, who also highlighted that more than infrastructure, the initiative seeks to consolidate an ecosystem of human, economic and social development, with childcare facilities for 500 children, the modernization of the Pedro Feliciano Polytechnic, a new technology center with 20 classrooms and eco-efficient buildings. It also incorporates inclusion programs, gender equality and continuous training, ensuring that each action has a positive and sustainable impact on the community.
