Santo Domingo.– In just three days, between July 6 and 8, four women lost their lives in violent incidents that occurred in the provinces of Santo Domingo, La Vega, Santiago, and San Cristóbal. Although two of the cases are being investigated as alleged femicides, authorities are still working to clarify the circumstances under which the other two deaths occurred.
The first incident was recorded on Sunday, July 6, in the Buena Vista I sector of Santo Domingo Norte. There, Maydarlyn Yunerki Acosta Almánzar, 33, was found lifeless. Investigations point to her romantic partner, Erick Antonio Gómez Torres, as the main suspect, who was arrested by the authorities and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
One day later, on Monday, July 7, residents of the Jabanal community, in La Vega, found the lifeless body of a woman identified only as Mary, about 45 years old. The victim had multiple stab wounds, blows, and burns. So far, the authorities have not established the motive for the crime nor have they reported any arrests.
That same July 7th, in the Los Montones community of the San José de las Matas municipality, Jairy Brisita, a young woman known on social media for the content she shared on TikTok, was found lifeless in her home. Her passing has caused consternation among family and friends, while the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) is conducting the corresponding studies to determine the cause of death. Authorities have indicated that the case remains under investigation.

Likewise, the most recent case occurred on Tuesday, July 8, in the municipal district of Hatillo, in San Cristóbal. Clarinete Asencio allegedly died at the hands of her partner, Royel Martínez de los Santos, who is being sought by authorities as the main suspect. According to preliminary reports, the woman reportedly received a fatal wound caused by a pellet gun.

The occurrence of these events contrasts with the reports presented each week by the National Police and the Joint Task Force, which highlight a decrease in crime indicators, including femicides. However, the deaths recorded during these three days have once again brought to the table the concern regarding the violence affecting women and the need to strengthen prevention and protection actions.
As investigations progress, the victims’ families await answers and justice. In two of the cases, the inquiries point to violence committed by the victims’ partners, while in the other files, authorities continue to gather evidence to determine what happened and establish the corresponding responsibilities.
