Puerto Rico.- The Dominican airline Arajet inaugurated this Wednesday its new direct route between Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico, with a flight that took off at 12:20 noon from the Las Américas International Airport and landed 40 minutes later at the Luis Muñoz Marín airport.
The new connection will have four weekly frequencies, Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and seeks to strengthen commercial, tourist and family ties between both destinations. In addition, starting June 6, the airline will also start flights between Punta Cana and San Juan, with three weekly frequencies (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).
With this expansion, Arajet will allow Puerto Ricans to connect with 11 additional destinations in Latin America through its two hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, including countries such as Jamaica, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico, among others.
The inaugural flight was seen off in Santo Domingo by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and led by the CEO and founder of Arajet, Víctor Pacheco Méndez, who waved the Dominican and Puerto Rican flags from the aircraft’s cockpit as a sign of celebration.

At the official ceremony held in San Juan, the governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González, the mayor of San Juan, Miguel Romero, the executive director of the Tourism Company, Willianette Robles Cancel, among other authorities, were present.
During 2025, Arajet will make available more than 88 thousand seats for these routes, a significant part of which were sold in the first 48 hours of the announcement, made in February.
“For the country, it is vital to continue improving air connectivity; that is why we are working to achieve the open skies treaty with the United States. Today Arajet begins this important route to Puerto Rico, and soon it will add others such as Chicago, Boston, and Orlando,” said David Collado.
For his part, Víctor Pacheco highlighted that this new route is the result of the open skies treaty signed between the Dominican Republic and the United States, which has allowed Arajet to expand its network of destinations.

“This first flight to San Juan marks the beginning of our commitment to the Puerto Rican people: to offer efficient and accessible travel, connecting this sister city with the entire continent,” expressed Pacheco Méndez.
The Executive Director of Tourism of Puerto Rico, Willianette Robles Cancel, celebrated the arrival of Arajet as an opportunity to “expand access alternatives and strengthen cultural, tourist, and commercial ties between both nations.”Likewise, Jorge Hernández, president of Aerostar Puerto Rico, recalled that in the last year alone 700,000 passengers traveled between both destinations, highlighting the importance of this new air offer to continue boosting regional exchange.
The airline projects to close 2025 with a network of 28 destinations in 17 countries, more than 250 connections throughout the continent, consolidating its low-cost proposal with high operational safety standards.
