U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called for an end to the war in Ukraine, saying Russian diesel production has been severely affected by Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries.
Trump said on Truth Social that Russia had “lost control” of its diesel oil industry because of the war, claiming that a large number of Russian diesel refineries had been damaged and were temporarily out of operation. The comments came as diesel prices continue to rise in the United States and globally.
Reuters reported that several of Russia’s major diesel-producing refineries have reduced or halted production following drone attacks. The Moscow oil refinery also suspended crude processing after a drone attack on Sunday, according to industry sources cited by Reuters.
Trump said the war was affecting fuel prices and urged an end to the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by saying Ukraine has been seeking peace and that discussions with the United States include possible de-escalation measures.
Trump is scheduled to meet Zelenskyy in New York on Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting comes as both countries continue carrying out long-range attacks against energy and military-related infrastructure.
