The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, stated that his Government will continue to defend national rice production, while referring to the concerns of Dominican producers regarding the sector.
Upon leaving an event held in this city of New York, the president pointed out that this is an issue he has been addressing for four years and assured that he will maintain his position in defense of the country’s rice production.
“It is a subject that we have been dealing with for four years,” expressed Abinader when approached by journalists.
The president maintained that the Dominican Republic has the right to protect and defend its producers, just as, he explained, the United States protects its own production.
“We are going to defend our production, just as the United States defends theirs,” the president stated.

Abinader added that the sectors involved must understand the Dominican position and the need to preserve national rice production.
The head of state’s statements come at a time when the Dominican rice sector is keeping its attention on trade conditions and measures that could impact local production.
President Luis Abinader is in New York fulfilling an agenda of activities, in light of his participation in the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), where he is scheduled to speak this September 23rd.
