The U.S. President, Donald Trump, stated in a conversation with Fox News that the country will be “strongly involved” in Venezuela’s oil sector after the capture of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife. Furthermore, Trump boasted about the attack against Venezuela perpetrated on the night of this Saturday, assuring that there is no other country on Earth that can carry out such a maneuver.

“I would say there was quite a bit of activity. Everything was very dark, especially in Venezuela. The team did an incredible job. They rehearsed and practiced like nobody ever had,” the president recounted in his conversation with Fox News. “And they told me, real military people told me, that there is no other country on Earth that could carry out such a maneuver. If you had seen what happened, I literally saw it as if I were watching a television program,” he assessed, adding that it was “an incredible job” that no one else could have done.

“They won’t succeed”

In turn, the Venezuelan government spoke out after the first air strike perpetrated by the U.S. against the city of Caracas “and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira”, described as a “very serious military aggression“. In the statement, Caracas warned that the objective of the attacks “is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, in particular its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the political independence of the Nation.” Despite the pressures, Venezuela warned the U.S.: “You will not succeed. After more than two hundred years of independence, the people and their legitimate Government remain firm in defense of sovereignty and the inalienable right to decide their destiny. The attempt to impose a colonial war to destroy the republican form of government and force a ‘regime change’, in alliance with the fascist oligarchy will fail like all previous attempts.”
