Miami.- Mexican actor Rafael Amaya will once again don the hat to play Aurelio Casillas in the tenth season of ‘El señor de los cielos’, an anticipated return that he considers “a tribute to the fans” and that has “a lot of material to tell”.
“This is a tribute to all the fans who have been there since the first season until the tenth (…), it’s for them and because they asked for it,” Amaya told EFE in a virtual interview.
The character is the central figure of the series, a powerful drug lord who manages to build a criminal empire, although he has undergone a great evolution since its premiere on Telemundo in 2013.
The Hispanic chain announced this Thursday that it will begin production of the new season this year, although it did not reveal a release date.
In it, Aurelio Casillas will return after disappearing from the radar of his own clan “to regain power and avenge his family, only to cross the definitive line by betraying his own, unleashing the collapse of his empire,” Telemundo reported in a statement.
One of the main novelties is that Amaya, who at the end of the ninth season seemed to have closed his cycle with ‘El señor de los cielos’, will serve as executive producer in addition to giving life to Casillas, which according to the actor gives the project a more personal touch.
The Mexican Government’s Rejection of Narco-Series
Regarding what the viewer can expect in the new episodes, the interpreter indicated that they have «much material to tell», since the story they tell shows the day-to-day life in Mexico.
“Our philosophy is to always tell the reality, the truth,” expressed Amaya, 48, assuring that if they lied, the public would end up leaving.
The announcement of the premiere coincides with a stance of rejection by the current Mexican government towards narco-series, which it considers to sugarcoat drug trafficking for young people and glorify criminals.
‘The Lord of the Skies’ is based precisely on Amado Carrillo Fuentes, former leader of the Juarez Cartel and whose nickname serves as the title of the series.
However, Amaya rejected the Mexican Government’s position, stating that “you can’t hide the sun with a finger.”
“We as artists have the responsibility to tell our reality as Mozart and Beethoven did in their time,” he added.
The Success of the Series
