Panama City.- Panama’s relief authorities found the lifeless body of a 12-year-old girl this Saturday who was buried by a landslide in the western province of Bocas del Toro, the area hardest hit by the heavy rains that have been recorded in the country in the last few hours.
The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported on its social media that the girl was located “without vital signs” and was “found next to her dog, after having been trapped following a landslide that occurred in the Finca 4 sector, Bambú, in the Changuinola district.”

Since Friday, Changuinola, located about 600 kilometers from the Panamanian capital, has been battered by torrential rains that caused emergency situations, such as landslides and fallen trees, indicated Sinaproc.
In that western region of Panama, marked by poverty and inhabited mostly by indigenous people, five schools and a community center were set up as shelters where more than 430 people are currently staying, according to figures released by the local press.

The rains also lashed the capital of Panama early this morning, where relief authorities reported fallen trees, downed power lines, and the detachment of some roofs in areas of the populous San Miguelito district.
