A woman dies in New York after a garbage truck crashes into scaffolding

New York.- A woman died and at least four other people were slightly injured this Tuesday after a garbage truck crashed into a car and scaffolding in East Harlem (New York), according to local media.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 local time (11:30 GMT), on 101st Street, near First Avenue, in the East Harlem (Manhattan) neighborhood, when a private garbage truck carrying the driver and a passenger crashed into a car and pushed it until it knocked down scaffolding, which fell on a woman, causing her death. According to the police, the driver and passenger, aged 47 and 50 respectively, were traveling north with the garbage truck when they lost control and crashed into a parked car with no occupants, pushing it onto the sidewalk until they knocked down scaffolding surrounding an apartment building.

The scaffolding collapsed and hit a woman who was underneath, who was found dead by the emergency services.

The driver and passenger of the truck were transported to a local hospital, where they are in stable condition, while at least three people suffered minor injuries. It is not yet clear what caused the accident, nor have any arrests been made. The Department of Buildings reported that the garbage truck knocked down a total of 24 meters of scaffolding, while the building suffered no damage.
