Barranquilla (Colombia).- At least three people died and 13 more were injured this Sunday due to a fire in a residential building in the Colombian city of Barranquilla (north), local authorities confirmed.
The mayor’s office of the capital of the Caribbean department of Atlántico detailed that
“the Official Fire Department managed to control the emergency in the Flores de Recreo residential complex”, but noted that there were
“three deaths and 45 people transferred to health centers”.
As of the morning of this Sunday, one of the deceased had not been identified.
Health authorities also reported that among the injured, transferred to various care centers, there are two girls aged two and one aged three.
The residential complex where the fire occurred has four buildings of 12 floors each, in which about 200 families reside, who were evacuated in a timely manner by the rescue organizations that attended the emergency.
In statements to local media, Sergeant Humberto Mejía, from the Barranquilla Fire Department, indicated that “the flames originated in the basement and affected between nine and eleven vehicles.”
In its social media, the City Hall also informed that a census of affected families is being carried out to take the relevant measures regarding what happened.
