Dozens of flights canceled in Argentina due to Thursday’s general strike
Buenos Aires.- Las airlines operating in Argentina announced the cancellation of dozens of flights due to the general strike that will take place this Thursday in the country to protest against the labor reform project promoted by the Government of Javier Milei.
The state-owned Aerolíneas Argentinas, the country’s main airline, said on Wednesday that due to the strike it is forced to cancel 255 flights, which will affect some 31,000 passengers.
The company specified in a statement that the measure will result in losses of $3 million.
Of the cancellations announced by Aerolíneas Argentinas, 219 correspond to domestic flights, which will affect approximately 25,000 passengers.
The company will cancel 32 regional flights, with about 5,000 passengers impacted; and four international flights, involving around 1,000 passengers.
The company stated that it will apply salary deductions to staff who join the strike called by Argentina’s two largest trade unions.
For its part, the low-cost airline JetSmart reported that, due to the general strike, it has been forced to cancel domestic and international flights scheduled for this Thursday.
According to a statement, the strike will impact a total of 96 flights and nearly 17,000 passengers who planned to travel this Thursday on JetSmart.
The 24-hour general strike, which includes the transportation sector, among others, will take place this Thursday, when the labor reform project is debated in the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina.
