Fire breaks out in hills of Indonesia's Gunungkidul region

Firefighters and emergency crews are battling a wildfire that broke out Thursday in the Betoro hills of Sumbergiri village, Ponjong district, in Indonesia’s Gunungkidul Regency.

Fire crews, supported by joint emergency personnel and local residents, are working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the blaze or the total area affected.

Officials warned that the region’s dry weather increases the risk of wildfires and urged the public not to burn trash or light fires near forests and grasslands. Residents are also encouraged to immediately report any signs of smoke or fire to local authorities.
