ORLANDO, Florida.– A 41-year-old woman and her partner filed a civil lawsuit against a fertility clinic, after claiming that, after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, the woman gave birth to a baby who would not be genetically the child of either of them.
According to the lawsuit, reported by New Times, the couple went to the Fertility Center of Orlando, located in Longwood, with the aim of starting a family through IVF. According to court documents, several embryos were created using the genetic material of both, which were cryopreserved for later implantation. Parents Steven Mills and Tiffany Score, fear that at least one of their embryos, created in 2020 and frozen in a fertility clinic, may have been mistakenly implanted in another woman who could be raising their biological child.After the birth, the couple claims to have noticed that the baby presented physical traits that did not match those of either of them. According to the lawsuit, genetic tests were later performed, which confirmed that the minor does not share a biological link with the parents who carried her and received her after birth.

In that regard, they asked an Orange County judge to order the clinic to explain what happened, notify other patients, and account for all stored embryos. So far, the clinic and the doctor mentioned in the lawsuit have not issued public comments on the case. The complaint argues that the center’s response has been limited and that not enough measures have been taken to clarify what happened.
