On Monday, Colombian President Gustavo Petro linked the Israeli military offensive against the Gaza Strip to the recent attacks in the Caribbean ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, and described these events as the new “war” on the planet.
“Gaza is a demonstration of what they want to do throughout America, throughout the world, throughout Africa, throughout the Arab world. It is a demonstration of the power of barbarity“, he underlined during a forum on climate financing at the United Nations.

In his speech there as head of state, Petro repudiated the recent
attacks by Washington against boats that supposedly had left Venezuela and that, despite the absence of evidence, Trump assures were
going towards US territory loaded with drugs.
“We are being victims of that, because missiles have fallen on unarmed young people in speedboats in the Latin American and non-Latin American Caribbean (…)
They are assassinating young people with missiles, ordered by a president who is the one from the USA,” he deplored.
De-certification
Petro also repudiated the Trump Administration’s decision not to
certify Colombia as a cooperating country in the fight against drug trafficking, something that had not happened for three decades.
“It’s not just the personal decertification of President Petro, it’s the murder of more than 15 young people, preceded by the imprisonment of thousands and thousands of Caribbean youths, including those from our islands of San Andrés and Providencia, in the prisons next door [in New York]. For carrying vessels with substances that these United Nations determine are dangerous,
just because they come from the south,” he said.
As he has done on other occasions, he lamented that those in charge of transporting narcotics are pursued, instead of attacking the origins of the problem, the rich countries that consume them. “

“
It was never a war against drug traffickers, but a dominant world power policy, of the north over the south, it only served for that,” he continued. “We cannot unleash the events, but know how to interpret them. There is a war in the world and that war in the world is of greed against life,” he added.
In his speech, he maintained that in the U.S. and some Western European countries,
“they believe today that there is a superior race”, which is why they deport immigrants in an offensive manner.
“The drug policy is linked to the genocide in Gaza, it is linked to the new migration policy and it is linked to the current failure of the climate crisis,” he insisted.
